NIA files 65-page chargesheet in Bhangar explosion case; demand Saokat Molla's jail custody

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday filed a comprehensive 65-page chargesheet in connection with the Bhangar explosion case before a special NIA court at the Kolkata City Sessions Court. Submitted exactly 87 days after the federal agency officially took over the high-profile investigation, the legal document slaps stringent sections of the Explosives Act against the accused. Out of five total individuals implicated in the initial probe, one has since passed away, while the remaining four are currently behind bars. Today's formal chargesheet specifically names two primary accused, Ahidul Islam Mollah and Rahmat Ali Mollah.

Although local political heavyweight Saokat Molla was not formally charged in this specific filing, the investigative report meticulously details his active and overarching role in the conspiracy. According to intelligence sources within the NIA, the illegal bomb-manufacturing operations were being carried out in the Bhangar region directly on the orders of Saokat Molla just prior to the elections. The central agency's report outlines a calculated strategy to manufacture high-intensity explosives to intimidate the local electorate while intentionally keeping the mastermind's identity hidden from primary records.

In a swift tactical maneuver, the anti-terror agency brought Saokat Molla to the city sessions court ahead of his scheduled appearance date of June 19 to request an immediate transfer to judicial custody. The NIA's legal counsel strongly petitioned the special judge to remand the accused to the Presidency Correctional Home, citing high-risk security concerns and the physical protection of the high-profile prisoner.
